    Missing Horn Relay

    Hi Guys,

Ive recently bought a GQ Patrol and have discovered that the horn was wired incorrectly not using the Horn relay, because the relay is missing.

I'd like to replace the relay however having it missing I have know idea what the type of relay is or the amperage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

You might find one at a wreckers. If you want to wire in an after-market unit, the fuse in the circuit is only 10 amps (according to page EL-64 of the service manual). Upgrade it so if you want to you can run duel horns or something that gives the vehicle the presence it deserves instead of the Meep Meep it has

Get some horns from a 2009 or there abouts, Mazda 6. They'll scare the bejesus out of anyone. I've gone through one set of Trumpet air horns and two Stebels now. So the Mazda 6 horn is on my radar.

Wish I had room and a large enough air tank to fit under the patrol somehow. These bad boys would be going in no questions asked lol.

In the late eighties, I restored a vintage 6 volt truck Klaxon for a friend, but fitted it to my first car for a couple of weeks. It used to scare the hell outta anyone within a block. The only trouble with it, was it would nearly kill the alternator. Maybe time to get a 12 volt one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD5kp7-dcgY

If your horn still works, more then likely an aftermarket relay has been installed.

Patrol’s switch earth via the horn contacts in the horn switch. So it’s very unlikely the horn will still sound without a relay.
