    Brown Davis Debacle

So I had a drama on my last trip. It looked like this:

My Brown Davis sub sprung a nasty leak. I got crap service from TJM in Alice Springs. And less than satisfactory care-factor from TJM Megastore in Brisbane (the original installer). Although they have now installed a replacement tank I was less than happy with their service - particularly given I've spent the equivalent of an average Australian wage there in the last year.

Basically. It split on a fold. Not a dud weld. Not a stone. It just split. Open. And dumped 85l of diesel on the dirt.

I'd suggest being double cautious of BD ...

Was just thinking about the brand of tanks. I was going to shop around for other brands too, as you do.

BD is a reputable brand and you don't hear many stories of them failing...

I had one in my Patrol and it withstood some punishment and never failed.

    Hopefully just an isolated case

You cant relay blame BD for the poor service. I have one of their long range sub tanks that split in a similar place, perhaps a bad batch?
I got it changed very quickly with no problems at all, and the tank has been great ever since.

You should let BD know about the bad service you recieved.
Often the manufacturer will have no idea that their distributors are pissing people off.

Guys. To be clear. I'm not blaming BD. They came to the party very quickly on a replacement. And they do offer a good warranty.
I do think it's reasonable that my faith is a bit rattled.
But it's really TJM I'm unhappy with.
So, I'm not necessarily saying don't get a BD (god knows I've got one again now too). But I am saying, make sure whoever installs it understands that when this happens 3500km from home it's extremely disruptive and expensive.
It's important that a brand like TJM, even though they are a franchise, make sure that getting stuff fixed a long way from home is important. And frankly. They didn't give a f&$k. Not for me anyway.

X2. My Brown Davis has been in two cars, done thousands of k's on different terrain and no problems. It sucks to get something faulty, but it's people these days not the products that are the problem.
