Price of failure is too high IMHO @Avo. If you're on the list and approaching the expected life, see what the ACCC suggests re: tardy responses from the car companies - there was mention of it in their media releases. I think they were looking for exactly this kind of thing going on...

    this is from the ACCC
At the moment, the recalls are voluntary. There is no obligation on manufacturers to recall vehicles with Takata airbags. Because the recalls are voluntary, the manufacturers can choose the remedy that they offer. Generally, where a voluntary recall is conducted, manufacturers will repair or replace the part subject to recall. In the case of Takata airbags, all manufacturers that have issued a voluntary recall are replacing the affected airbags

In the media spot I saw ACCC chairman Rod Sims doing, he suggested that affected vehicle owners request a replacement vehicle until theirs is repaired. Good luck with that!

Anyone else getting flashbacks of Fight Club? Ed Norton's character's scene about 20 mins in...
    "I'm a Recall Coordinator"
"My job was to apply the formula..."
"Take the number of vehicles in the field (A); multiply it by the probable rate of failure (B); then multiply the result by the average out-of-court settlement (C).
    "A" times "B" times "C" equals "X".
If "X" is less than the cost of the recall, we don't do them..."

I'm guessing someone, somewhere stuffed up the formula for Takata airbags...

I should have stayed with this.

after ringing the first idiot and him saying they replace them after 6 years and i had to wait until end of year for a letter i feel like the email to them was more benefical as they then have it on record..

I had an interesting chat with SafeWork NSW last month as we use our Jeeps for our tour business (or did use them) and as the Jeep is an item of plant with a known defective item of safety equipment in the event of an airbag deployment and someone being injured I WOULD be prosecuted under Workplace health and safety law......
