zd30 crd st ute intermittent starting problem 200k

I have a problem with starting my ute mostly in the morning but it can happen any time of the day. When i turn the key on the engine & glow plug light do not come on - no start. After turning the the key on & off a few times all lights come on & away i go. Occasionally the motor will cut out when first started in the morning.
I thought it was the starting relay but i have replaced that & the problem is still there.
So is the problem in my key tumbler or an earth or somewhere else. cheers

More then likely a faulty ECU relay or loose ECU earth connections.

Try swapping the ECU relay with the interior fan relay. The ECU relay is found above the fusebox inside the vehicle. You will need to remove the plastic trim that is above the pedals and around the fusebox to access the relays. The ECU relay is the top relay. Swap it with the middle relay (interior fan).

Just did that & it went first go however that happens as well. I'll try early tomorrow & see if it fixes it. Will a start relay fill in that slot?

The GUs don't have a start relay so I'm not really sure which relay you are referring to. If it's the same colour as the ECU relay it should be Okay.

In the manual it's referred as an ignition relay.
But anyway there has not been a miss-start since the swap. I have a new one coming.
cheers and thankyou for the advice.
