my wife worries too much.
ok so the wife has made the statement that i should have a uhf but which one....
was thinking about mounting it in the ash tray hole but wondering about it being loud enough to hear. (gq td42 with extractors thats done over half a mill)
i do have the option of mounting it on my centre cubby box. so size isn't the issue here.
i have spotted
http://www.prestigecom.net.au/gme-tx...e-antenna-pack
anyone able to tell me if it's gunna work ie. will a half deaf guy hear it over the td42.
anyone suggest a better option without sending me broke ?
thanks

I have one of them mounted down near my left knee.. With the speaker facing out so the noise isn't muffled and i have no issues at all hearing it... Any my hearing isn't the best either.

I have bought two of these recently for family members, however did find a package deal where the antenna comes with both 3 and 6dbi gain antennas. They are easy to fit, both into Hilux's, and appear to have good performance or at least equal with all the other radios. Range is limited by power, antenna and terrain, so i guess they are as good as any in my view.

I had a remote head GME in my GQ, I mounted the main brain part behind the dash and then the head and an external speaker were mounted on top of the dash above aircon vents. The speaker was angled towards the driver.

I have an extension speaker fitted just behind my head. I think it was around $50.

Yep, I have Benelec extension speakers ($25 or there abouts) for both my UHFs and Sat phone all mounted high on the cargo barrier, work fine and easily heard by all in the vehicle.
Also both UHFs are remote head, the Icom main unit is behind the glovebox in the dash and the GME remote unit is under the passengers seat.
Over the years I have bought lots of UHFs and always from Prestige Comms in Perth, wait until they are having a sale on the unit you want (usually a regular thing) and you'll find their prices can't be beat. Usual disclaimer about being associated with a business, I'm just one af their happy customers.
