What have you done with the cooling system up to this point?

Just the usual. Rad was recored 12 months ago( standard) cleaned a couple of months ago, had gas tuned 18-24 months ago. Have always been led to believe standard is best(?) In GU'S. Will change thermostat next week. Run the proper coolant.

Yeah right! So your hitting the red on water temp but only seeing 250c on the EGT?

I have the JPC Hiflow water pump. I fitted it with a brand new copper radiator and an Infinity fan and a Hiflow thermostat.. I fitted the abort Warner at the same time. Since the tune it has never had movement on the temp gauge. This ncludes towing the 1.5t camper in 40c @ 115km/h

Very pleased with the results. Is it the water pump? No idea! But the motor no longer gets hot.

All good. You can use them to help with diagnosis. But you can use your hand.

When its getting hot does stopping allow it cool reasonably quick? You can also get a bit of an idea by touching the hoses. If the top and bottom hoses are similar temperatures it can kind of help point out where the issue is. If they are both coolish then its likely a thermostat or problem. If they are both hot then the radiator is not getting enough air flow or possibly has a blockage internally.

The fan hub can also be the culprit if it is not engaging enough to get enough drive on the fan. This can be checked by checking the resistance when the engine is stopped.

The other thing that you can check is if the thermostst is opening far enough to conpletely block the bypass port in the thermostat housing. You can do this by measurement or even just block the port with something like a welch plug and test drive.

Yes it cools quick..I remember replacing hub and blades but that may of been on my petrol one. I'll try what you've suggested over weekend, and change thermostat anyway. Thanks mat, youre a great help. Then I'll do the same on the chev.

Doesnt matter. Although the tridon highflow thermostat for the td is longer than others so will more than likely close the bypass port in operation. They do have the measurements on their website if you wanted to check prior to buying one.
