Is this and Automatic Transmission?
Sounds more like a faulty TCU ( Transmission Control Unit ) or gearbox than a limp mode. If its Auto and you drowned the ECU then the TCU would also of drowned

We can get a new tranny Comp for $150, is the part number in the same spot as them? If it is, It has the same part no. But the numbers at the bottom of the sticker are different. I'm hoping that's a bath hi number or something?!
Batch number!!***
Broken screen on my phone makes it do weird things

If it's not a light sort of a red colour you may have cooked it , also get him to check the smell , ie does it smell burnt .
I have a 94 diesel 4.2 with an auto and the best mod is a transmission oil temp gauge , vital to know what temp the oil is because if it gets too high you will cook the oil or worse the tranny .
He's doing the tranny this arvo just in case, the car was bogged for a few hours!

I believe
The new ecu is 23710 35j00 is for a GQ with manual transmission
The old one 23710 35j10 is for a GQ with auto transmission
Also just found this in a search which confirms what I thought: http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/nissa...omputer-19551/

Looking at Nissan Fast
Part# 23710-35J11 and Part# 23710-35J12 are compatible but no mention of Part# 23710-35J00
also the other way around Part# 23710-35J00 does not list the 23710-35J10 as being compatable
