Mods priority selection, all opinions welcome

    Hey all,

So recently bought a myself a 2010 desert gold gu patrol wagon. Loving it! Want to set it up for light track duties and touring/camping.

Bought the car as stock as they get. It already has 31 inch bridgestone all terrains with decent tread.

My plan is to get bullbar, snorkel, air compressor, suspension lift, second battery mostly in that order.

Was wondering what most people consider the most important mods to get to start doing more capable things off road. Im a newbie so all advice will be much appreciated.

    Cheers

mines a gq but i've done things as i need them.. which means i went 2 inch lift, rear bar, 33's, brakes, side/rock steps, snorkel, still waiting on bullbar,
i get most places and if your by yourself then i wouldn't be trying anything you need bigger lift or tyres for. keeping it a small lift makes it nicer to drive on the highway and you don't have issues with the police.
if its worth doin its worth over doin

Welcome aboard Addy mate! Priority #1 I believe should be good tyres to suit your preferred track plans. Of course that could steamroll into suspension mods then winches then.....$$$......:-) Patrol stock as is LSD diffs are friggin fantastic so in my opinion diff lockers can come further down the track when coin permits :-)

Yea only want a 2inch lift, plan is to go 33s once current tyres are useless. What do you mean by brakes as a mod? (Coz i think theres issues with my brake system so might be upgrading soon)

lockers a lot later on i believe, that would be more of a luxury item for me

First Id buy a Scan gauge,, replace the intercooler with a tigged one
then fit boost controller and needle valve. Then block the EGR.
Do your suspension last after you have fitted all your accessories.
Brakes get some dimple drilled and slotted rotors and some black/green pads
you could even go one step further and fit braided teflon brake lines
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

I'd go air compressor, snatch strap and shackles, rated recovery points, 2" lift, 33s, off-road course (assuming you're new to off-roading), bullbar snorkel.
Why, is because with an air compressor you can do beach runs and basic 4wdriving with a standard Patrol no problems. 2" will give you good room for the 33s which will get you further. Then start thinking about Bullbars, snorkels, winches etc.
    2007 GU ST-S 4.8 Patrol.
40mm heavy duty springs, Dual batteries,
140 ltr fuel tank,Custom 60ltr water tank, draws, cargo barrier, bull bar, IPF spotties, UHF.

The main thing you want to avoid is having to leave the vehicle on a track.
So first address recovery as good tracks can turn bad.
Secondly address reliability and repairability. A good tool kit and spares.
Then do the mods needed for the more challanging tracks.

With these ZD30 motors you really need to see whats going on under the bonnet therefore a Scan gauge
secondly take the engine cover off and inspect your intercooler, if its oily its leaking,, dont worry they all do.
Replace it with a fully tig welded and tested one,, Diesel Smart do a good one that wont break the bank.
do the NADS thing then thats the performance side of things taken care of along with an EGR block.
These mods I highly recommend you do first.
Tyres will depend on what you intend to do but a brand name all terrain would be high on my list.
You could even run 2 sets of tyres if you really wanted to a lot of ppl do if they have the room,,lol

Is the NADS still needed for the crds engines though?

Thanks for all the advice and definitely going to keep in mind all these good points, appreciate fellas!
