    What model/engine?
    Where is it mounted?
    Looks like diesel engine pre-heat control. (Glow plugs or manifold heater.)

    That's a good sign that somebody's been fiddling with it. It should be secured 'cos it looks like the ECU.

    Not entirely sure where is goes but if you judge via the cable lengths you should a general idea of where it goes. Try looking for any captive nuts or slots it could be bolted too, should help you figure out where it lives.

    Not sure on the GU's but on the GQ's the ECU is located behind the passengers side firewall.
