    EGT Gauge and Boost Controller

    Hi All,

I am installing an EGT Gauge and also a boost controller (Tillix) in my ZD30 CRD Patrol. I have a quick fit boost adapter on the way for fitting under the Map sensor, but am unsure if I can just run a 'T' off this same line for the Boost Controller or do I need to drill and weld the intercooler pipe? Can anyone confirm if I can just use a "T' piece?

IMO a Tee piece will be fine.

I had a good look at the instructions for the Tillix Valve and they recommend not to connect it to the same outlet as the boost gauge. So being an impatient bastard, and not wanting to wait until I could get it welded at an exhaust shop. I've drilled and tapped the back of the intercooler inlet pipe with a 1/8th BSPT Thread-3/16th Barbed Tube fitting. All works well and I just took it for a quick run, max boost was 15.5psi, is this a pretty normal level for the CRD ZD30 engine?

I haven't fitted the boost controller yet, but was planning on setting it to 20psi max boost when I get the parts I need. From reading through this and other forums, it seems this should be ok, not really sure though? What is the usual max boost to set with the controller in a CRD engine? I'll fine tune the boost curve inline with the best EGT's once the controller and needle valve are fitted.
I am sitting on just under 13psi @ 100kph (2100RPM) at the moment with the factory ecu controlling it. The 15.5psi I mentioned is the max boost I am getting with the foot planted, struggling to pull the skin off the custard at the moment, but it is more the dead spots I am aiming to remove with the boost controller.

So the Tillix has been fitted and I went for a country run today and initially had the Tillix set at about 18psi, this put me into limp mode (Max boost 18.6psi) heading up Greenmount hill out of Perth. This is quite a lengthy climb over the Darling range for those not familiar with Perth. I was surprised the Patrol gave no indication of limp mode, no CEL etc? Is that normal? I pulled over at the top after struggling along at 60kph and scanned and cleared the code with Torque Pro (Have a Scan Gauge II on the way as Torque pro is a bit dodgy with the Patrol from what I've found so farl).

So wound the Tillix out about a quarter turn and max boost was now about 17 odd psi. Was heading up another long hill with the boot into it and she went into limp mode with max boost showing as 17.6 psi. Wound the tillix out another 1/4 turn and also wound out the needle valve a quarter turn and no more limp mode issues, but EGR temp did get up to 600⁰C Briefly with the boot into it up another hill.

Whats the recommended max boost setting that most are using for the CRD with 3" exhaust, EGR block, no chip or remap? I thought it would handle the 18psi boost no problem based on some settings I've read on various forums.
