RB30 transfer case the same as GQ TD42?
Does anyone know if the TD42 transfer case is the same as an rb30 transfer case?
I've searched but can't find a firm answer.
Thanks.

I believe the transfer cases are the same, just different bellhousings to suit the two size gearboxes, being the RD28/RB30 and the TD/TB gearboxes. My RD28 was simply swapped over behind a TD42 box for my engine conversion, using the TD bellhousing.

if it helps the serial number fir the TD42 transfer case is TX12A, and the auto used behind the TD42 is RE4R03A. (noted from a '92 GQ Safari/ Patrol)
1992 Nissan Safari Granroad LWB TD42 after market turbo RE4R03A (for now) 3" straight pipe

It's the same in GQs afaik. The lubrication oil can be different, depending on the year.

Thanks for the replys.
I've since been told by my mechanic that the TD42 transfer case I have won't bolt up as a replacement to the RB30 transfer case.
Is there anyone that has tried this that can confirm for sure either way?

TD42 and TB42 transfer case should be the same.
I was told the transfer case(externally) the same in GQs.
I know there's a difference between earlier(up to 1990 I think) and later transfer cases, in terms of what type
of oil to use.
Assuming the mechanic is right about that, then RB30 transfer case is different from TB42/TD42.
Not sure whether there's a difference between manual gearbox transfer case & auto gearbox transfer case.
