PICS - Einasleigh - Gilberton - Forsayth loop

I recently spent a bit of time poking around the old copper fields and gold fields of the Etheridge Shire to the South West of Cairns. It is about a 5-6 hr drive and is not on everyone's usual tourist routes. Although two of the main attractions out there are the Georgetown Minerals Museum and Cobbold Gorge, we didn't stop at those locations, preferring the less beaten path.

We copped some fantastic storms and heavy rain whilst out there and the drive was awesome.

Gilberton Station is open to the public for fossicking and camping and Agate Creek is the same. Costs were minimal.

Below are a couple of pics from along the way.

Love the wet season TD. Best time of year without a doubt.

As we came back into Einasleigh from the Gilberton area, we got hammered with a big storm. Dumped a couple of inches at least on us and got the river running brown and about a foot deep. Luckily we had the shelter and comfort of the pub for a couple of hours.

It went from those couple of nice gorge shots at the top, to this in no time. Was quite surprising. The sky out the back of this photo shows how dark and menacing it was.

Here's a shot of us after the storm departing Einasleigh and heading North again. Drove for a few hours into the night to make up time, then found a camp site in one of the many old quarries around the place. The shot with the moon rising above the trucks was taken there.
