Rear Diff Details
Hi Guys
The Limited Slip rear diff on my 2003 4.8 is shuddering/scraping when turning. I've done lots of research but now am confused by the varying info available. After reading lots of info I currently have a bottle of engine flush in there which I'll leave for a while and then replace with the correct oil. The problem is, what is the correct oil and how much do I need? According to the VIN plate, it is a HG35 diff. I've read that I need 140 LSD oil, but it's nearly impossible it get it here in the UK. The best alternative is 75-140.... Is that ok? and if so, which one? http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-970-limited-slip-diff.aspx
And how many litres do I need for a limited slip HG35?

Hi mate,
The reference HG35 is to the Ratio and you have a 1:3.54 ratio H233 rear diff.
The Manual says you need a Gear Oil Hypoid LSD (Part number KLD31-14002) or equivalent - API GL-5 SAE140 and 10% volume of LSD Friction Modifier (Part number 38469-C6000) is an equivalent.

Also the rear H233 diff takes 2.4lts without a difflock (4-1/4 lmp pt)

The Fuchs oil recommended is Titan Supergear LS SAE 85W-140 Part no 1933 here in good old land of Oz. Previously used Castrol Safxa which was recommended by Nissan service manager if you have any problems, but changed over to Fuchs for everything.
As an oil from Europe, it should be available in UK.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and all you need is your friends (and in our case our Patrol)

G'day Alto,
in my experience, if you call the help line of one of the major oil suppliers, ( should be on any tin, whatever of their product), they'll be delighted to talk to a real person out there in the real world who is interested in their real product. Generally, they aren't sales persons but actual specialists.
They've usually got all the car manufacturer's species and the product which best matches them.
Mr.Nissan gives some details if you can find them but the oil companies have got the stuff for you.
