Getting ready to buy my First 4WD

    Hey All,

Im in the process of researching, checking whats out there and getting prepared to start going out and test driving some 4WDs this weekend.

From Western Sydney, 30yo, 4WD and Diesel noob (have enough mechanically knowledge of old petrols to do my own troubleshooting ect)

What i looking to get out of my 4WD: Preferable early 2000s GU, Will take GRs into consideration

    - Priority 1 is im after a comfy daily (i have a spare car incase of breakdowns but a patrol would be me designated daily)

    - Diesel, Would prefer a Wagon, will consider Cab Chassis.... No Utes

    - Occasional camping, some timid 4WDing, will be taking it on snow trips ect.

    - Trying to keep it under $15,000, 12,500 would be ideal. Not too fussed on accessories yet, bullbar preferable.

Im not scared of getting a ZD30 3.0L Turbo Diesel but i'd love to know more about what too look out for, what i can do to prevent catastrophe ect?

I will be looking for good service history but would love to know at what point (KMs) would members walk away from ZD30 that hasnt been rebuilt or at least had the head removed and bottom end checked etc? (excuse my lack of diesel knowledge if i say anything incorrect)

    Cheers
    Dick

Timid 4WDing? Might I suggest you will start out timid. But believe me, you get hooked, you get sucked in, and you become an addict.
It releases dopamine faster than elicit drugs and alcohol.

Try to get a GU that has the NADS done already (Gauges, blocked EGR, Dawes vale and catch can).

If you can get one with service history.
If it has a towbar check the rating. If it is a 2.5 or higher rating it may have done some

Thanks Turtle, Will keep that in mind when i go looking.

The Godfather, Trying to find one with NADS already installed has reduced the market considerable, Would it not be advised to install the NADS gear on a ZD30 thats reached 250-300K? Is NADS something that should be installed earlier on?
