Woods Point busy this week?
Looking at dumping the kids with Leah's olds and just getting away with the two of us somewhere local to just set up the tent and relax for 2 or 3 days this week.
Ideally a camp right next to a creek/river!
Do you think Wood Point will be ridiculously crowded?
Any other local areas where you can camp right next to a creek within 2 hours?
Really need some sort of kid free break before the year starts again

I reckon it will be packed mate. We went up there last Xmas and ended up leaving early because there were too many people. I went for a drive yesterday and found a kickass spot right on the river with not many people around but might be a bit far... Just out of Newry

Hey Andy. Maybe try Running Creek reserve mate. 20 minutes out of Mansfield. Neighbour just got back late this morning and he reckons the cooler weather dispersed quiet a few people compared to how busy it was xmas and new years. Might get lucky ?

AB, have a think about the camps along the Aberfeldy River, north of Walhalla, I would go in bypassing Walhalla, Head over the Thompson dam, turn left at the main drag, right onto trig Tk about 400m down the road. The campsite on the river at the bottom of Trig is a beauty, or, turn left onto CMF track, cross the river and first tk on left on Northeast tk about 200m from river crossing- nice and quiet at any time, firewood can be a bit scarce but right on the river, grassy and clear of overhead danger. I can PM you with a mudmap if its easier. River should be less than 500mm deep at the crossing at this time of year.

I've been through Mansfield recently on a few occasions during long weekends (including recently at New Years), and haven't seen any cops.... And the Main Street was absolutely hustling with 4wd's... I wonder if the local community finally got the feedback to the police that they needed the 4wd community for the economy.
Another option is up along King Basin Rd or north of pineapple flats area where there are a heap of nice spots along river frontage - most vacant when we left yesterday

Legendary
Why not go out to Big River, and find a spot out there.

I would probably avoid the early camping spots such as Stockmans Reward, as that may be busy, but you could most likely find a spot at Frenchmans ....
I personally prefer it right up the other end, and you are still within a couple of hours.

We're in a bit of a predicament where we have to have 3G or 4G on the Friday for work purposes < loving it!
Just rang Commercial hotel in Woods Point and he thinks there's reception at Matlock.
I'm pretty sure there is too but can anyone confirm?
Thinking about heading there and continuing on to Knockwood and worse case Jamieson, Mitchell area if it's crazy but unfortunately due to work commitments we need Internet on Friday.
