Oily residue on the core of the cooler is a good tell tale sign of a holed IC. The noise just could be the boost leaking out.
Definitely possible too mate. Exact same thing happened on our work zd30 as well and it was a split IC too.

Ok so I've checked the intercooler and there is nothing there. I've checked the air box. I've also check the turbo compressor wheel for any play and there is nothing. I decided to dial back the boost setting to a lower setting and the screech has stopped. But as soon as i dial the boost back up again the screech returns.
I'm starting to worry that it's the exhaust Side of the turbo.
Any other ideas.
Is it painful to pull the egr off the car.
Cheers

How did you check the intercooler? And also look at theexhaust manifold. Like i said. Its not uncommon for thess to warp.

Ok so just an update. Last night leaving work I decided to turn the boost down on my hpd boost controller and after I did the the screech did not return. Being inquisitive I pulled over and turned the boost back up again. Sure enough under acceleration and revs at about 2000/3000 the screech came back. Pulled over and turned it back down.
I also pulled all the intake pre turbo off to see if it was leaking and found nothing.
Also checked the turbo to see if there was any movement which there wasn't.

Hopefully someone else can help but I would 100% confirm no leaks by running the engine and mix up some detergent and smear bubbles all over the exhaust manifold, IC and IC lines to eliminate that once and for all.

I reckon I'll try that tomorrow.
I feel like it's the egr but have no idea to be honest

Remember a mate having a funny sound like that on his GTR.
Have a look at the crank case vent hose/system.
If it has a blockage OR is over restricted somehow (eg-poor designed, restrictive catch can) you can get a noise like that, & it does sounds like it comes from turbo.
Going by description, boost created noise, keep looking with the soap mix.
good luck.
IF IT'S NOT A NISSAN.
THEN IT'S A COMPROMISE
