The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Those awnings don't stop a great deal of UV @MB. Just in case you're ever planning on spending a long and hot NYE under it.. Take your sunscreen as well!

Reconfigured the old family wagon this afternoon since removing the Titan 85kg drawers a month or so ago now.

Managed to squeeze in so far:
    80L Waeco old fridge
    26L Engel freezer
    2 x 20L HDPE water jerry cans
    1 x camp stove
    1 x camp table
    1 x 120W Waeco old solar kit
    &
4 x Expedition boxes up top.

Will fill in all the leftover nooks and crannies tomorrow now with bits and bobs and reckon sleeping bags and self inflator mattresses should jam up on top of 3 x Expedition boxes to the ceiling before dropping in the final fourth awesome box!

Approximately 1.5 sheets of ply used, and is relatively easy to install/remove if need be as long as you have the left barn door aftermarket bracket to open wider than stupid GU OEM design!

Building the 'expedition' box - looking for ideas and input

Forgot to add that I needed to extend forward 80mm this specific brand GU cargo barrier to fit the second rear row of Expedition boxes.

They fit like a pair of good gloves now

FWIW: The ply box outer dimensions today were:
1125mm Wide x 930mm Deep x 540mm High and used 3 of the 6mm OEM bolt holes in the floor to secure down.
(There is a niggly notch on the floor sheet test first before building that needs to be cut out located on the right side pictured below)

Nice work! What sort of weight saving do you think you've achieved? There'd still be a bit of weight in the ply setup.
Between Patrols ATM. Had a beaut GU with 6.5 Chev TD. Next is a GU ute with a 4.5 litre Cummins conversion and a camper on the back.

Not exactly sure Ben mate but I’d say 50kgish difference between Titan drawers and ply.
I’ve added that back in and then some more now with heaps of gear though :-)

Decided to give the little Engel freezer some better heat release holes as its motor is on the rear exhausting upwards unlike the Waeco exhausting to rear barn door gaps.

Perfect gap found between the two rows of Expedition boxes and directly above the Engel exhaust.

Some 12mm x 12mm aluminium angle from Bunnings seems to stop the slide left and right.

Sleeping bags jammed hard on top of the first row and against the rear cage seem to negate the need for strapping down.
