4.5 GU Auto (XR6 TURBO CONVERSION) Strengthening Required

    Hi Guys,
Looking to strengthen the Auto on the GU 4.5 in order for it to withstand the XR6 Barra Turbo engine,

I will be running boost, tune, bigger cooler, 1000cc injectors and snorkel air box so need it to be able to deal with about 300rwkw…

Does anybody here have any tips as to what i need to do in order for this to work problem free ?

    Cheers
    BD

You can rebuild it to Infiniti Q45 spec which is an extra friction in the forward clutch, overrun clutch and low & reverse brake. I did my own with a kit I bought from Makco Transmissions in the US.
Use either a Nomad or Extreme valve body from Wholesale with that. Yes, I know, they're pricy but they've been proven to be solid.

Hi john, i have been sittingnhere for ages attempting to completely grasp everything you said by checking out and re searching many sites.

I am currently on the macko site which seems quite easy to use but dont know which transmission my gu 4.5 patrol has.

I know its an re4 but there are like 4 or 5 nissan trannys that start with re4 in there description.

Do you know exactly which tranmy mine runs by chance?

Also going off what you're saying above, you're saying to buy the first lot of stuff from macko in the above mentioned then buy the nomad or extreme vakve body too?

Apologise for my stupidity in advance

Just start an email conversation with them and explain you want to rebuild a RE4R03A to Q45 spec and they will advise on what you need.
The rebuild kits are the same but Q45 has extra frictions and steel plates.

You won't really know what to order, apart from the basics, until you strip the box to see what's reusable. Needle bearings, bushes, etc.
Frictions, seals and the band would be changed anyway but a lot of other stuff might still be ok.
No point in paying double postage.
