Patrol Freak
There are several solutions for controlling the auto trans depending on your budget but I've never looked into any of them.
I find the original setup works well for me and it cost nothing as it was all in place anyway.
If it were me, I'd spend the money on getting the trans beefed up before spending up on fancy controllers..

So, a bit of an update on where I'm at, at the moment with the engine conversion, I was speaking to a friend of mine who asked an engineer in regards to what I am doing and he has come back with the following info, If any of you are thinking of doing a conversion (regardless of engine) refer to this below.
So , if your new engine weighs less than the original you won't need a swerve test as it will not affect the weight of the vehicle due to the barra turbo engine weighing in less than the original 4.5 petrol donk. Its not the power , speed is speed, its how quickly you can stop the speed you're going, and if your new engine is heavier than the original you have a problem.
Also since that is cleared that I won't be needing a swerve test, I also don't need a torsion test, Apparently torsion test is a test used to see if the chassis can handle the extra power slash torque, So to know if your new engine that you're planning to use in your conversion passes this you use the below info.
Make and model of car: find the highest torque output engine that was placed in these vehicles (in my case the TB4.8 which produced 420nm of torque from factory, add 20% and if the new engine you're using is producing less torque than that figure then you're laughing.
So 4.8 patrol 420nm x20% = 504nm
BF 480nm which means I am within my requirements.
This way now I just gotta worry about the other engineering things like engine mounts etc and if all is honky dory then engineering shouldn't be a problem.
No news yet on the bell housing either… I guess Im currently a sitting duck!

Hi guys , been a while since I've posted here as I have been documenting the build on 4x4 earth.
I Am going to try and attempt to keep the posts here more frequent in the hope that some may find the input useful.
So at the moment my RE4 tranny has been extensively modified and fully rebuilt from the ground up.
It was built to the same spec as one he sent off to NSW for an xr6 turbo (yes they use them in xr6's too as an upgrade so they must be good). That tranny is currently pulling 9.90s consistently down the quarter so I should be ok running it in my patrol...
We are now waiting for the torque converter to be built which would be done some time this week.
Once that's done it's will be married with the tranny , vellhousings etc and sent back off to my tune shop...
Here are some photos of the tranny being built
