    GU 2.8 Fluctuating Revs

    G'day Guys,

I have recently noticed a problem with my 2.8 GU. I first noticed it on Saturday and it became worse yesterday.

Basically what is happening is when I go to take off from a stopped position, as the clutch engages the revs die right down and it wants to stall (This is while I am giving it as many revs as I usually do) I then have to disengage the clutch, bring the revs up really high and then engage the clutch again.

Once I got the vehicle home, I noticed that when I rev it and take my foot off the throttle, the needle on the tacho would drop down to just above 500 and you would hear it almost die and then it would start to fluctuate going between 500 and 1500 a few times and then it would settle at idle.

Now it no longer fluctuates like that when I rev it but when I take my foot off the throttle it drops down to almost stall point and then jumps back up to normal idle.

Anyone got any ideas of what could be the causing this?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers
    Chris

Sounds like the injector pump advance plate needs to be changed. Common issue with this and Nissan sell like an update kit to rectify this issue. Its not expensive to. Around 70$ from memory.

Righto, cheers. So is this the part you are talking about? http://patrolapart.com.au/product/ni...ce-plate-oring

Also, I don't know whether it is relevant but a week or two ago I went to start it when it was cold and it would just crank and not fire. However that only happened once.

Righto. Another thing I noticed before when I came to a stop and put the clutch in, it revved itself up. Whether it is relevant info I don't know but it may help with diagnosing.

Rightio, I have found the solution. While checking the timing I have noticed that the tone ring on the back of the crank gear was free spinning. I have since replaced it with a new part and it is running perfect.

Hi cyclone, where exactly is the crank gear tone ring? I am having the same issue. Hard to start and when it starts it revs to 1500 rpm and then dies right down and stalls. Any help would be much appreciated. I know this was posted a long time ago. Thanks
