Mobil 80W90 oil OK for GQ?

    Hi
I have a 4ltr container of Mobil HD 80W 90 oil. Does this suit a 4.2 diesel GQ? Presumably for diff or g'box. Only asking as it was bought a few years ago for another vehicle which I no longer have. The only use I would have for this oil would be to take on long off-road adventures for emergency use. Not wanting to damage anything of course.

    What do you think?
    Thanks

What spec is the Oil? If it is a GL-4 spec then you can use it in your gearbox as well as transfer case and front diff. If its a Gl-5 then can only really go in the transfer case or front diff.

I thought the transfer case takes auto tranny oil?!
Or does it depend on the year of the transfer case?

Looks like API-GL.5. Label also says suitable where SAE 80W-90 EP us specified.
I'll assume then that front diff and transfer case is ok. Also just to clarify car is 1991 build.

So if I got some GL4 would that be a better option for emergency situation?
What then about rear diff with the LSD?

LSD diff oil. You can't use normal diff/gear oil on LSDs.

GL5 will attack the brass syncros in the gearbox.
    "Can't" is a dirty 4 letter word.
Best way to deal with a "Can't" is to chop off the "t" and brew it in boiled water for a few minutes.
Sip on the "t", and consider what you've got left to work with
