Tyres for stock 17" alloy rims

Just wondering what tyres others are running on the stock alloy 17" rims that come with the Y61s?

I don't want to go any larger than 285/70x17 and either AT or MT. I'm a bit shocked at the prices after coming from a 16" wheeled vehicle.

    Thanks

Well 24 hours is a short time in the 4WD upgrade world.

Ordered 5 x 275/70x17 Cooper ST Maxxs. I've had these before I reckon, for ne, that are just about the best I can find.

Cooper reckon I should get 90,000 ks out of them. Funny thing, they say I'd only get 80,000 out of the 285/70x17s, seems odd to me.

The most useful thing I've ever done with tyres is let them down. It's never mattered if I had new muddies, or crappy ATs, as soon as I deflate them they turn into more useful tyres.

I ran a set of Mongrels (aggressive mud tyres) down at Swan Lake (beach dunes). As soon as I deflated them to about 15 psi they were great, you'd never think they'd do any good on sand beind so aggressive. I ran a set of new Hercules Mud Tyres, a pretty agressive mud pattern and brand new, I think they have 18 - 20mm tread depth.

Got bogged in deep snow. Lockers in both front and back, no effect. Deflated tyres to about 12-15 psi, drove out without lockers.

Mud tyres look great, but I reckon they are over rated. For me it's all about deflation.

Anyway, get the new tyres fitted on Thursday.
