Well no pump in tank, as I guess most of you knew!, Extra wires were earth and for what I assume is sensor to switch off transfer pump, sensor was rolling around in bottom of tank so at least taking tank out wasn't a waste of time. Fixed that mess up, tank was spotless(must be 10 years or more since I had it out). A bit curious though as I have never seen evidence of main tank overfilling from sub tank?? - maybe sensor is for something else, any ideas?

My understanding re the transfer pump is that that's all it does, pretty sure is only 1 line in and 1 line out, or does it also act as lift pump??

Will now go and search for that elusive gauze strainer!!

    Hi Kennedy
Re you problem not reving .When I worked at a fuel injection shop ,when overhauling a td42 IP we used to remove that little strainer n toss it ,it
was more problems than it's worth ,as you are no doubt finding out now .How good is your fuel filter etc .

    G'day FNq,

I was tempted to toss it but came to the conclusion that, now that I know where it is and how to fish it out, it's only a 15 min job and might save me more serious grief down the track.
Fuel filter is standard set-up and I usually use Ryco filters.
