Two rats of different species found running around the property. Can anyone identify if either are native or vermin.

Ratus ratus (introduced one) has a tail at least as long as its body, don't think any native ones do. From pics look like native ones but not sure what exactly. .

Swamp rats, maybe? There are just so many types of small mammals and marsupials on this continent that look similar it is a bit confusing. For twenty five years we never saw any signs of native rats. Four years ago, diggings appeared under the hedgerows, and have spread every where.

How did you get those photos muddy? Seems so close and they haven’t turned tail. Long zoom?

What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal??

They are scooting around picking up the fallen seeds from the bird feeder. They take off if they catch wind of us. The sigma 600 lens is extended at around 3/4 and I cropped the pics before uploading them.

Just back into Mexico tonight from northern interstate/s sustainable hardwood timber sourcing travels desperately needed thanks to our premier and his Muppets

What they’ve clearly overlooked also is that instead of merely transporting local Vic business needs (22.5T loads at a time) only 2.5hrs hauling away has now increased to 1,600km (one way) of extra diesel emissions
The good carbon neutral news is that the Northern sustainable coupes (as were Vic too) will now double their sizes and replanting efforts to accommodate all that Mexican casholy leaving the South
