I started a thread in the members rides area My 2001 GU. though am pretty conservative compared to some round here lol.

Have a few photos in there. More as a record of its evolution and performance.

Have been shopping for a few items, crossing off recovery points
    20160805_003911.jpg

    and UHF

    20160805_003748.jpg

Can't wait to install em. where to put the UHF?. was going to get the split remote head unit but this kit was complete includes the unit, aerial, coax, mounting brackets with the 5 year warranty and still over $100 cheaper than the other unit was which still needed an aerial etc. Sales person recons they are the same internals but suggested upgrading the aerial.

am now wondering if the recovery points become somewhat redundant if / when a decent steel bullbar is installed

You cant use a bull bar as a recovery point as it has crush cans and sensors,,etc
No Idea which recovery points you have but make sure they were designed for that vehicle.

BTW your attachments do not work

Yeah never use a bull bar as a reco point. Same goes for the rear. Do NOT use the tow ball.

Totally agree with Mudski its the Forums number one rule never ever use a tow ball as a means of recovery.
Use only rated points that are designed and tested to suit your vehicle

Any advise or direction on how best to achieve this without taking out a 3rd mortgage would be appreciated

Decent Steel bull bar and scrub bars if possible - winch compatible Wreckers or on fleabay, face ache etc etc
    · Drivers side= seat, mines broken - even a recaro or stratos if affordable Wreckers again or as above
    · Driver’s side door internal trim = the plastic bit surrounding the switches where your knee hits See top two suggestions, lol
    · Steel Rims and tyres mud terrain (33’s) See the above, if not, see above that
    · Rear Cargo barrier Not sure what they are worth new, but might be worth to see above, and above...
    · Duel battery setup - no microchip, just the plain simple setup I'd go the extra and install a dc to dc charger over just a solenoid. Your batteries will love you for it.
    · Overhead console Each to their own, I've never really sat in a Patrol with one so I can't comment here
    · Air lockers front and rear Get front first, the rear LSD as John said are really good in the Patrols, As front alone will totally transform your car when climbing the harder stuff
    · UHF with aerial etc
. Large intercooler with associated fittings If your good with making up brackets and stuff, you can do this on the real cheap, another member here, jff45 I think is his user name, did it and it came out really good, and it was dirt cheap too
    · Various Switches suit – air lockers, flood lights etc.In my opinion, don't buy the $5 Carling style switches. They are absolute junk. I run three in my centre console, and had broken all three twice each, I now run the Narve branded Carling style switches and haven't broken one yet. Probably triple the price though...
    · Various gauges Exhaust temp, boost pressure, water temp – assembly Stick with known brands. VDO, Redarc etc etc. I run Redarc and McNally, The redarc oil pressure gauge died within a month of having it, turned out it was the pressure switch, got that switched over and has been good ever since
Recovery points See Threedogs about these.
    as to your question....
Buy it all second hand. Thats the cheapest way but not always the best.

    thanks Mudski
I sent the entire list off to Vic and QLD specialist wreckers for a start, can I say parts are getting harder and harder to find, only got a couple back thus far. The factory steel bull bar is a bit of myth apparently, no one has one ATM. or there not letting on lol. so far the only thing I scored used is the overhead compass ( which I have been told is a headache)
