Wheel options
I have a 2008 GU6 with the 17inch factory alloys and 265/70/R17's (31inch)
I am looking for a 33inch equivalent.
It looks like a new 16x8 sunny with 285/75/R16's seems to be a well used combo and will be cheaper than the rubber alone on 17's.
Good so far?
The tyre shop tells be they recommend a -23 offset on the 16's.
I believe my current offset is +10.
Is offset mm? And if so, why would a 33mm change be needed for an increase from 265 to 285. Surely i only need to change 10mm and therefore a 0 offset. Or are brakes a factor?
Just checking - a positive moves the inside rim nearer the engine and a negative moves away from the engine. Right?
Thanks.

Yep, negative moves the tyre centerline out. I have ROH Trac2 16"x8" -13mm rims, with 285/75/16s. No rubbing and tyres don't hang outside the guards.

Thanks abw.
Did you go neg 13 for a reason?
What year are you and ST or DX?
Would a another 10mm still keep within the guards?
Ta.

It's a pretty common size, tyres don't hang out the guards. And ADR (?) rules say you can change the track legally (self certify) by 25mm over what is available for that model. Some Patrols come with 0mm offset, so having -13mm offset both sides changes the track by 26mm (close enough). By the way, I have the larger TB48 (4.8 L petrol) calipers, and these rims fit nicely over them.

I went to Neg6 16x8 RockCrawler rims and run 305/70R16 (33x12.5) on them.
The reference to neg 22 or Neg 25 is really carried over from the old GQ days when everyone fitting the Neg22 off the Toyota but it really is Too much for a late model GU as the tyres will be outside the guard and you risk being put off the road.
My Neg 6 are perfect. I have seen Neg13 sit OK too but not sure they would take a 305 and still sit inside the guard.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Thanks guys. So neg twentysomething is not neededed for either big calipers or a wider 305 and might actually be an issue with adr's and protruding past the arches. So I think something around the neg 10 is the go.
Anyone else want to share their thoughts?

I recently fitted 305/70/16 on 16x8 neg 13 on a series 1 GU.
Drivers side.
Passenger side.
This is with a 2" lift.
Adjustable panhards will recenter the diff, but as you can see it's not a lot.
