My First GUPatrol

Hi All!
New to the Nissan scene crossing over from the Toyota camp soon.
I have been busy reading as much as I can about these 3 litre Patrols as I'm about to purchase one from my sister in 3 weeks.
I'm alarmed at all the stories about engine failures and similar problems.
The car I'm buying is a one owner and my brother in law was never known for servicing cars. His theory was if it ain't broken, dont touch it.
Now this car has done 360,000k and never missed a beat. Just had its first clutch replaced and all shocks done.
I'm going to drive it home to Qld from SA but give it an oil change first and after reading some stories might clean the MAF as well.
Apparently this car never uses oil or leaks anything. Could this be a freaky 3 litre or now I'm afraid it's a ticking time bomb.
Any thoughts welcome,

Drive it like you stole it,don't over fill with oil it wont like that,
Disconnect the battery while you do any work as well.
