    Condensation or head/head gasket issue?!

    Hey Guys,

Just opened up the oil cap to find up a little bit "cappuccino" build up around the oil cap and under it. The oil cap was tight enough.

Does this look ok, or am I heading towards trouble?!!

Nothing in oil(dipstick) or in coolant water.

Vehicle is RB30 Patrol. Stock carby setup.
It's not losing any water. It has a fair bit of blow-by on revs higher than 2k or so.

    Thanx

P.S. I only ran the engine for three/four minutes or so before I noticed this.
I opened up the oil cap to check on blow-by(by loosening the cap and see if it rattles).

If you have only been doing short trips over a long time, especially in the colder months, the engine won't get hot enough to evaporate the moisture produced from combustion. That being said, I personally, have only seen moisture like that when the head was cracked or the head gasket is gone.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Yeah, it doesn't look good. I haven't pulled the rocker cover out yet.
I have been doing quite a few very short trips lately, as it's not possible to walk or ride when it's raining all day and night.
Either way, I think I'm at the point where a full engine rebuild is on the table, for my own well being.
It's over four years since my last cylinder head job, which was NOT a proper job anyway.
This time, I will most definitely get it right, and will be a lot quicker as well.
The only issue is that I'm bit challenged by the more messy bottom end rebuild job, which is a somewhat
new thing for me. I prefer to do it while the engine block is still in the car, but not sure it's that doable.
If I pull the engine out, then I would need a proper engine stand as well as an engine crane.
Then I would have the need to do the clutch, the rear seal, etc etc.

If I can find a low km motor from nearby, then I will take a different path.
But, at this stage, i would want to keep the carby setup. The EFI setup is bit more messy for me atm,
with all the electrical wiring that need to be sorted out as well as having to keep dual fuel with the EFI.
Somehow I thought, keeping the dual fuel won't be simple for me with the EFI conversion.

If you haven't replaced the thermostat and it hasn't been letting the engine warm up to proper temp, then it will probably be condensation. If it were me, I would take the thing for a drive, with the radiator partially blocked with a bit of cardboard (between grill and radiator). I wouldn't let it over heat, though. Or if you have replaced the thermostat, go for a long country drive without the cardboard and see if it A) Overeheats. B) Loses coolant.

I'm with mudnut. It's worth taking it for a drive, could be rebuilding it for nothing. Worst case it confirms your suspicion.

Yeah, cool mate. I haven't had time for a drive today so far. I'll do that this arvo.

It's NOT losing coolant. But, I need to do an exhaust gas test on the coolant again.

I've managed to take these photos today.
I didn't have enough time to do the compression test.
I'll do it tomorrow as well as a leak down test.

One thing I'm sure about is this water+oil sludge can't be coolant.
In the worst case scenario, I think it can be from the small crack inside the head bolt hole,
but it would be a very small one. If that's the case, another treatment of "liquid glass" will
seal it up. But, I'm reluctant to use it anymore, considering my last experience with them.
I usually avoid any additives since last time(It created too much pressure in the cooling system & the engine was running too hot)
