slow / lack of power on uphill starts
Gday travellers,
My recent purchase of a GU 2006 Patrol, 4.8L auto has a little quirk.
I've noticed on a number of few occasions, usually when I've come to a stop, and then start to accelerate that the car is lacking power, I'm having to give it a fair amount of revs and even then its only crawling for 5-10 seconds until it starts to properly find 1st gear.
Anyone have any tips on what this is....
I'm thinking with it being an uphill thing it may be to do with fuel getting into the engine etc.....?

Stop doing that and get it to a automatic specialist sounds like it is slipping in first or the fluid is low mine dose that when cold so I drive easy till it warms up the auto in a patrol needs to be service every 20,000 km

I never go into the outback with out a decent supply of water,
and the general rule for how much you'll need is three litres
per day , per person, per man per degree over 25 degrees
celcius, per kilometer if walking on foot, in the winter months
dividing it by two, plus... another litre... at the end .... Russell Coight

Gday Makka,
I reckon perhaps its not dropping back to 1st gear when I come to a stop?, its as if I'm moving off in 3rd or 4th gear, am booking it in.
Has only been happening occassionally, next time it does it I'll slip it into tiptronic - and see if that changes the occurence

Hi People,
So I've tried moving from drive and dropping the tiptronic at what is coming up in 4th back to 1st, but I get no change in power.
Have checked the air flow sensor and it appears ok.
Have disconnected / reconnected the battery....
Problem still occurs, any ideas,
Can anyone else confirm if there at low speed and move over to tiptronic that it comes up in 4th?
any recommendations for a patrol specialist in Melbourne's eastern suburbs...
Cheers

Any time you move the tiptronic lever over to manual mode it displays 4th. It doesnt mean though that it is actually in 4th from what I have felt in mine. However selecting 1st while your moving , like changing down as if was a normal manual should be able to be done.
I would be doing a flush on the box. See if that clears it up then go from there.
Other possible things wrong could be the torque converter being stuffed or slipping ratios internally. Will need an auto specialist to take a look and diagnose. Cant help with that sorry as im in WA

Hiya,
So my service mechanic hooked up his little computer and found the following errors: DTC list - P1764: Direct Clutch Solenoid Valve / Circuit Fault. & P1845: Pressure switch 5 Circuit Valve Difference.....
He said its a bit hard to tell exactly, perhaps new oil/fluids??
I am taking it to a Transmission specialist next week.
Google machine has a few answers, anyone have a glaringly obvious answer to the above faults........

Hiya
So my Patrol has been in surgery. The transmissions guys have opened up and checked the solenoid valves and found no faults, diagnostics found no fault with the ecu either. They have cleaned the connectors/terminals? where there has been dust / carbon? dust or whatever and are hopeful that my issue may be fixed.
I'm off to pick up the Patrol from the mechanics tomorrow, expecting for what they have checked / tested will run into ...$4-500 or more??,
anyone have a feel for what I should be expecting to pay.....
Cheers

OK
I have picked up the patrol today
The error codes for the transmission were P1764 & P1845
Mechanics did - scan test and check for code.
Perform solenoid actuations - No faults found.
Remove connectors & valvebody. Remove solenoids from heatplate. Heat up and check resistances. - ALL GOOD.
Clean all solenoid terminals and clean wiring connector.
Reassamble
No faults found / no solenoid failures
The Patrol has had the same issues - since I've driven it on the road today. ie: move off from a stop and car is slowww - like in 4th gear.
I turned off the engine and re started car - moved off and all good at normal speed (as suggested by mechanic).
Mechanic has suggested the next steps in fault finding this issue for permanent fix:
- 1. Check external wiring / harness - 1/2 days work......
- 2. work backwards from the transmission controller through the wiring and hopefully find fault.....
- 3. worst case scenario - Nissans suggestion - replace all wiring = $3-4k - which I hope it doesnt come to that....
Any suggestions gear heads....
