    Question CRD EGR Blank - Piping build up after lots of kms?

    Hi All,

    So this has played on my mind for a while and after doing some digging I can't really find any answers. Like most CRD owners I have blocked my EGR between the cooler and the valve on the inlet side of the motor and I have always wondered if after a considerable amount of kms how much build up there will be in the piping prior to where the blank is placed. I also see that you can now purchase a blank to install where the piping comes off the exhaust side.

    So a few questions;
    Has anyone with the blank installed between the valve and cooler that has put a fair amount of kms on their motor ripped the piping off to investigate the level of build up?

    Has anyone played around with having the blank on the exhaust side vs the inlet side?

    If you have, was there any significant difference?

    Blanking the egr before or after the pipe will make stuff all difference. The egr is blocked and thats what matters. Having the egr pipe full of carbon wont matter one bit if the egr is blocked.
    The only time you would block the egr, pre the pipe, is if the pipe has split.

    ^ What he said. Makes stuff all difference.

    What I want to do is pull all the intake system off and clean the lot and get it all back on but not keen to try doing the lot in a day.
    There is no legal cure for STUPID!

    You should always block the EGR at the manifold and not the EGR valve... as blocking it at the lower point the pipe can act as a "sump" as all the oily crud can leak down and fill the egr pipe.

    Same here..
    Mine had 65 thou on it before the blank went in..
    Plan on pulling the lot over a weekend and cleaning it and then blanking both ends..
    Purely to eliminate any risk of the egr pipe going pop.

    Hmm, might have to make a list of all the materials and gaskets needed to pull, clean and put back together.

    Only one gasket.. Manifold to head gasket..
    The rest of em should be fine.. egr gaskets if your that keen..
    Rest of its pipe..

    I removed the entire EGR system minus the valve. I put a T-junction in to close the water circuit but I have so much room now to work with. It is stupid how much the EGR cooling pipe takes up.
