    Question Seat Belt Retractors GU IV

    My front seat belt retractors have lost a lot of "pull" so the belts stay slack when undone.
    The only remedy I have found on the web is to wash the belt, let it dry uncoiled. I have not tried that yet-thought there may be a real solution out there.
    Comments?

    So I did the wash thing with Palmolive dish detergent and water. Did not seem to do much good, but after a few days, the soap softened and now ---SUCCESS.
    My belts retract unassisted.

    did he clean the belt? because mine retracts slowly but i believe its because the belt is dirty and is getting caught on the top belt guide

    Fully extend the belt.
    Inspect the sides of the belt for fraying and trim off any frayed fibres
    Replace the belt if sides are noticeably frayed over several inches or more than 5% across or there are any cuts
    Belts are webbed and stretch under load like a snatch strap
    If the fraying is severe it may mean ALL the fibres in the belt are compromised

    If the belt is OK then;
    Scrub the belt with either (in order of preference);
    Dry Cleaning fluid or a good upholstery cleaner or very hot soapy water (use a mild detergent not truck wash).

    Check and clean the aperture the belt runs thru using the above cleaning fluid and a brush
    Sand if needed but usually doesn't.

    The above works maybe 95% of the time.
    I am not a fan of silicone spray methods myself.

    Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.
