Hi new to posts but following for years. I have hunted this information everywhere but just getting nowhere.
I have a unmodified 2008 3ltr patrol auto. The problem is it seems to go into limp mode when I go up steep hills near my home.
The speed drops off I would be lucky to be doing 15 to 20 kms hour!
the revs don't go up if I put pedal down, even if I lift foot off and reapply it still does nothing.
I sometimes have to put it into 1st gear to get up the hill.
The boost pressure on ultra gauge shows around 12 to 14 psi on average. The power hold switch sometimes comes on by itself and lights up on "hold" also
Still happens even if I put o/d off
It seems to happen more in hotter weather and with aircon on.
Temp on ultra gauge is usually normal at 90 to 93 c. and doesn't vary much
There are no fault codes on the ultra gauge
There is oil leaking out of the turbo inlet pipe to intercooler.?
The air filters have been changed no oil on them and maf sensor appeared clean but I still cleaned with maf cleaner.
It also happened when I was on beach in 4wd low range goes ok then seem to loose power then comes right?
I am going to get auto trans a service any body got any ideas? I don't want to take to dealer yet as they could tell me anything.
Regards
Paul

I can't help much but will be following this one. I have an 05 Di and have had similar incidents, but not as often. Trying to pass a truck uphill in hot weather and went into limp mode. It is almost as though the thing can't decide which gear it wants to be in so it gives up and goes into limp. I have found making sure the overdrive is off seems to stop that happening.
Also only once I stopped in sand, went from hi to low range and when I tried to build a little momentum for the approaching deep sand went into limp mode. Stopped backed up and tried again and no further issues. Try turning the overdrive off and aircon off before hitting the hill and see if that changes things?
2005 GU IV ST 3.0. Snorkel. Roof rack. Awning. Spots. Welded I/C. Dual batteries & VSR. UHF. Barn door hinge extension. Roof top spot lights. Rear drawers. 2" lift. NADS. EGT and boost gauges. Trans temp and water temp gauges. Provent 200 catch can. Rear ladder
And crawling on the planet's face, some insects called the human race. Lost in time. And lost in space... and meaning.
on my Patrol going up hill with heavy load would cause the semi limp mode , no error code or check engine light would show up.. eventually going to a bigger exhaust fixed it.
2012 GU Patrol Simpson Edition. Auto. UHF, Bull Bar, 2" lift with Koni shocks, dobinson coils. 3" stainless Steel Exhaust.
I too have had similar issues (steep hills or soft sand). It is if the transmission won't drop down and I have to manually drop it down to 1 to get the revs up. I find taking the overdrive off improves things. Also try playing around with that at switch (not too sure what it is called). That too may help.
I have changed fuel filter radiator temp really good no dramas, tried with od off still no joy.
On my boost gauge I have put in just off the turbo it peaked at 20 but the factory fitted one on the tank bear the inlet manifold showed around 17 if that means anything?
