G'day Folks,
I agree 110% with AB, remember the old saying "do it once, do it right" if Roofy can last a couple of more weeks with-out the Patrol he will be in a better position.
However, this is Roofys call!

Exactly right, Paul. Also no-one wants to be the guy that says roofy must get the cheaper motor, and have it grenade again, either.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Had a chat to Patrolapart.
I showed them the price and condition of the motor that Paul found for $4200 and being the honest blokes they are said it was a really good deal and we should aim for that one.

Yeah good job AB and all others involved of course. My gut feeling world be on that motor, is up to roofy at the end of the day tho. You would expect that one to give years of enjoyable motoring hopefully.

After reading this thread and giving it a lot of thought Jane and I have decided that if at all possible we would like to see if it is feasible to go for the 3Ltr from Clayton. Main reason being the warranty.
The funds have slowed so this might not be an option so after waiting a bit longer we will probably have to go for the 3Ltr at Readys.
We can add a small amount to the money if need be.
Looking like it has had its run we really appreciate all the help and donations from everyone. Without this help we wouldn't be able to 4x4 for a long time.

Looking at this again it sounds like we are down in the dumps and disappointed. It couldn't be further from the truth. we are absolutely over the moon and appreciate what has been done for us. When the beast first blew up we had no idea what to do but you great forum people have been a life saver for us.

Use this thread for Motor chat ONLY. no talk about fund raising. maybe updates on money only but this is the business end of this project.
I don't think this comment sunk in Darren, you may need to do a cleanup.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Could we have some input from someone that knows about the add on costs please. I read in one of the threads but can't find it about things that need to be considered beyond the cost of the engine. Especially if the new engine is purchased.
Will it need....
Injectors?
Clutch?
Pump or turbo overhaul?
Fluids, filters, MAF, etc?
On my reckoning we should be looking to have a budget of up to $6k to get this motor in and running?
Guessing here.
