Power steering pump noise.
G'day all. i recently replace the 5/8" (16mm) hose from the steering fluid res to the back of the pump with 1/2" (12.5mm) hose because the owner of the shop reckons it is better to stretch a hose 1.5 mm to fit the 14mm barb, rather than try and squash the 16mm hose down.
Since I replaced the fluid with dextron III. I have noticed that the pump is whining.
my questions are: Is the 12.5 hose restricting flow to the pump?
Is the Dextron III incompatible with the system?
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Dex 3 should be fine.
You are likely causing a restriction with the smaller line and causing cavitation (whine). Shouldnt ever down size a suction hose.

I have been having issues with my power steering at idle or when on tight tracks with it getting very difficult to turn... i have to stab the accelerator to get the revs up so i can turn the wheel..
Matty was driving my car the other night and says his does the same thing. .

Your pulley has scolloped out Jonathan. Mine has too, but only slightly.
A smaller pulley as Mat said or the pump may need a new cartridge kit in it. I got them but they're not bloody cheap. I wonder if there is a way to test the pressure of the pumps. Assuming there would be...

Easy to test them with the right gear.
Td42 idle should be 750rpm
