    Kinglake National Park area.

Hi all, was just looking at a map. Is the Kinglake area just north of Melbourne any good for a overnight weekend trip with a bit of 1st gear low stuff?
    Cheers.

Not sure about Kinglake for over nighters. But a little further east is Murrundindi on the Toolangi state forest. Good camping and good tracks. Great bush walks there too.

    Coxy,

You could certainly do that if you like .... I tend to think of Kinglake as a day trip, because it is too close to Melbourne and we often go trailbike riding in there, but there are some tracks in there that will test you.

I would go further afield, as there are usually too many bikes in there, which increases the risk of something untoward happening, and there are heaps of spots to go which you will find nicer spots to camp which are on a river or stream.

If you do want to stay close, then Murrundindi is not too bad as a compromise...still bikes around, but a few less

    Hi Coxy.
Where abouts will you be coming from ?
While Kinglaked / Toolangi area is beautiful, If you could spare an extra 45 minutes to an hour, you could also head further to Howqua/Jamieson area through mansfeld. Some spectacular camping spots, and the 4x4 tracks around are generally easyish, but if you're keen, some very aggro stuff can be found.

Did you end up trying out any of the recommended areas Coxy34?
