    Need an extra 20L fuel??

Well I got told this by a good 4x4'n friend with 2 patrols so I gave it a crack.
I got an extra 20ltrs but it's up to you on how well you do the job And tank size..

What I'm about to explain is very simple. All your doing is removing the air gap in your tank. Manufacturers usually give 30% expansion gap.

    So the steps..
Step one, locate some way to get into your tank... In my 91 LWB GQ it's a simple matter of lifting the floor matting, remove the cover plate and carefully take out the sender unit.. Others may have to remove your tank..

This took a bit because my plug was a bit seized and they ain't very forgiving with length... But all the hoses and bolts came out very easy..

Next to find the breather line.. Mine was towards the rear . It should run next to the filler neck..
Now as you can't fit your head I the hole the whole lot is done by feel..
Once you find the line you can get to work.. Grab a 16mm ring spanner.. Slip the ring over the line (it's metal by the way) and straighten out the bend in the last 100mm of the pipe..
Once happy with that, feel along the pipe for a bracket.. Once found simple push or pull the pipe to flatten the bracket and push the pipe towards the roof..

I got mine within 2 mm of the roof.. The closer you can get it the more you will fit...

Clean all your seals and bolt it all back together..

Warning... I have been advised not to fill and leave the car.. As you are removing the air gap you should only fill to the top and then drive... Spillage may occur...

    Happy modding..
    Cheers

Both models, the fast fill allows rapid tank fill but then once it hits that breather the air has only one way out and that's the expansion breather which is slow or the fuel goes up the filler neck which triggers the filler nozel. .
That's why if you count to 5 you can get a liter or 2 in before you see it again..
But lifting the fast fill breather up then you remove that trapped air and get more fuel in..
In the gq if you can see the fuel in the neck it stays there.. that's why I say you have to fill and drive..

A few guys on p4x4 have done both main and sub and get a good amount extra in it by doing this mod.

Should only fill to the first click,,
it gets pretty cold down in fuel tanks and expansion is very real.
It could result in raw fuel spilling onto the hot exhaust, not ideal eh,,,lol

Not really an issue with the patrol as the exhaust and fillers are opposite sides..
In saying that, I have filled and parked a couple of times and never had an over flow..

If i stopped at the first click i would be stopping way too early. Diesel foams up real easy so i just stop for 10 seconds or so to let teh foam go down then continue slowly for the last bit until i see the fuel in the neck or im satisfied will my fill up.
Exhaust is on the other side too and never had an issue with fuel coming out of the cap/ filler neck too from the result of my filling up techniques...lol

So basically Kallen the main tank is not 75Ltr capacity (as per fillup results) but 95ltrs...

From my findings on the gq my tank was 90 usable. But now it's 115 usable..
