Have a look at your egr pipe. If it does it while accelerating then stops, your motor is under load and high exhaust temps. As for the second part, when you stop the pipe cools, the metal shrinks and the split opens just that little more, then when it gets hot the metal expands, closing the split slightly.
Ive seen this before on a crd, but it could be something else too. Best thing to do is just make up a plate for the egr pipe on the exhaust side. So if the pipe is split it wont matter.

What are all the other pipes that run off from the inlet side. Will that matter if I block the bastard on the turbo side?

Had a squeal on two different occasions.

The first time a couple of years back, it was the exhaust manifold gasket. (fortunately fixed under warranty) At the time I was told it is not uncommon. The dealer replaced the manifold studs in the head and also machine the manifold, which was recommended.

The second time I thought it was the same problem because it had a similar sound. This time it was the alternator pulley that was causing the noise.

Hey Folks - how much (roughly) for belt and tensioner replacement? 2006 GU 3.0TD Manual and Nissan have just quoted me $700 to replace both ..... am I being robbed blind, or is this reasonable?
Can still under extended warranty from purchase date, so sticking with original parts and Nissan fitting etc (where possible).

If you have extended warranty then the Tensioner is covered but the Belt isn't... I had two tensioners replaced for nix over 6 years
Get them to 'fix the squeal' and you should only pay for the belt

OMG you are an actual genius!

Just waiting for Nissan to confirm they will put it through under the warranty and get it done on Monday

It's really noisy on startup for a few mins (once warm, it's fine) .... am I risking any damage by driving it like this?

If you don't have a spare Serpy belt and they replace it, tell them you want the old one back.
Inspect the old belt and if it is 1/2 way decent keep it as a spare
