So what you have there is a solid state solenoid. I have had one on the GQ without any further protection forever. I have now gone to an Allbright but the concept is the same.. That box has glands to stop water ingress so I assume that is how they guarantee the water proof P67. Removing it will void that but personally i would not hesitate but that's me.

If you really wanted to you could run some silicon around the joint of that solenoid for piece of mind.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Righto. Only other question I think I have on this note, and I me sure it's been asked a lot lol.
I should be wiring off my crank battery as my second is a deep cycle Correct??
I have always been told to run off second battery so don't drain the main.... But I don't plan to ever use it without the engine running.

Off your Cranker for sure mate. Thats where your Alternator will work the best. Everything else off your second.

***EDIT. I have moved your thread into the DIY Electrical section for future searches.
