3" Straight Pipe

So I'm straight piping my truck to beef up the sound a bit. I've already been for a drive with the rear section (with muffler) unbolted from the front section. With the turbo its not obnoxiously loud ive found.

Being diesel, and turbo, back pressure isn't needed is my understanding. But for whatever reason will I need to give it a tune once the new section of straight pipe is in?

Silvertop TD42 with aftermarket turbo.

I would imagine fitting a free flowing exhaust would change a few parameters
and would benefit from a dyno .

Not much really. Just do it. Always fit the largest possible exhaust practical post turbo.

haha the poor old zd30. Right, well I'll have it tuned when it goes in for the wheel bearings. Wont be a dyno tune tho as the nearest dyno is 300km away.

Um these r a COMPLETELY different animal. The ZD 30 is a lot more electronically controlled than any TD42. Presuming your silver top in s in a GQ & not a late model GU then unlike the ZD30 u dnt have O2 sensors & all that crap. That's why the TD42's are so good & last so long. They're simple & not electronically controlled other than a glow plug timer module & a cpl of other minor things. No, adding a 3" pipe will not require a tune. It will just mean that the exhaust will leave your car a tad sooner. The only time you'll need to tune it is if you were planning on upping the boost at the same time. You'll prob find it'll spool up a little quicker & be marginally more responsive. If you're doing this purely for sound then don't touch anything. Just put the 3" on & enjoy it. If it's more power u want then yeah, up the boost & get it retuned.
