Engine control unit
Hi guys, does anyone know if the 1992 Safari Granroad has an ECU? I've been snooping around in the engine compartment and cannot find it. Could be in the dash? Not sure if this has been asked else where.
Cheers

I'm pretty sure the only control unit you would have would be a TCU for the auto trans. There's nothing controlled by electronics on your engine.

I was very very certain that they are mechanical engines too, someone I was talking to was trying to convince me I'd need to rechip my computer to be able to run a manual trans. To which i screwed my face up and said "wat da fawwwk". But no - we're right - they are mechanical engines and the only computer is the TCU. Which isn't really that intelligent anyway,
Thanks all for your help.

You might think your TCU isn't intelligent but they're sought after for conversions with auto trans. I can't run my trans without my ECU connected to the TCU.
Last one I saw for sale was snapped up at $350.

Haha wow!! I didnt really mean anything by it just that it often doesnt know which gear to be in or when to engage tcc haha. When I do my manual conversion I'll sell the trans with the ECU to help out the next guy.
So John if your tcu and ecu arent connected you can't engage any gears?

Yes, I can drive it in 'limp home' mode which is 3rd gear i.e. No solenoids powered.

That makes sense. the 3rd gear in these transmissions is sort of their natural state when theres pressure in the system isnt it? As though when all the solenoids are deenergised the 3rd gear will be selected?
