    GU patrol front differential options

I don't have lockers. Rear LSD provides more road safety than I'd want to give away, have thought about a front loccka or similar and as a result of those discussions it was suggested that a 2.7td rear lsd will fit straight in and provide most of the benefit without significant cost....

    Your thoughts please?

The OE LSD is the best in the business, Im fitting a Pro-Locker to the front and leaving the rear as is.
If money was not an option Id fit Pro-Lockers front and rear

i agree the rear LSD is excellent. i can feel it bind up if i go to full lock turning on hard stuff. i wouldn't get much benefit from messing with that, im thinking about a trip to the scrappers for a 2nd hand 2.7 LSD diff (im assuming out of a terrano or similar ) and slipping it in the front end.

im expecting the cost of this to be $250 parts rather than $1500 for a locking system and also for it to be there full time on the road should i be using 4wd in winter, for example.

someone in the club said they had done it, i wanted a second opinion. quite a few readers of this post but no-one with anything to add.... perplexing?

i dont want a debate over the relative merits -of course locking differentials front and back off road would be great but so would 35" tyres and a lift kit.

these also would have a significant on road cost / reduction is practicality, safety etc.

im expecting that Nissan got it about right out of the factory, the reality is my truck gets driven around 30,000km on tar seal a year and 50km a month on dirt.

the club also has a 33" tyre size cap, so a lift kit isnt essential, i might put a 25/30mm spacer under the spring seat but thats it.

the advice im really after is - yes, it works. you want one of these..... (link to ebay or something with an actual model that is suitable)

    thanks for reading. R.

I did read once where a rear Navara diff would fit the front of a Patrol
'but not 100% sure on that.
Some here have fitted a Lock-rite style locker to the front with good feed back

Yes it will go in. You need to match the diff ratio. Sorry not sure what model your chasing but I understand it's a Navara rear LSD.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Would that compromise your steering effort with a LSD in the front

No more than a clunky auto locker I don't think.
