First device I can see an application for the comp boys

    The others?
Well, I don't use a winch hook anyway just attach my winch cable eye to the Bow shackle so using one of those just introduces another bit of kit and gives the manuf a hunjy or two
I spose the shear pin might add some safety then again maybe not... would kinda depend on the scenario
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Really? Seems like they would have to use a shackle which they don't like because they're too slow

I have a very similar end on my winch rope which i simply attach a shackle through it to the tree protector when winching. Ill grab a photo of mine this morning for you.

I believe mine is actually spliced on and doesn't use a shear pin at all. The rope will break before the end comes off so it will still be secured to the shackle and tree protector.

Don't know John, about legality. It isn't sticking out past the furthest front point of the b. bar.

Now that is a point, Pardon the pun. I would suspect it would be held flat against the bar by the rope pressure, would it not? It also eliminates the need for exposing the rope or cable to damage and UV rays.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Yes it is held up against the hawse when the rope is taut. The black rubbery covers prevent it from sliding all over the place . Very neat.
