1st timer, Howdy
Hey Folks,
How ya'll doing tonight? I'm 88Safari and as my name and title suggest. I'm a first time patrol owner and I bought a 1988 Safari granroad yesterday.
I went and picked it up today, I tell you the 08 3.0TD hilux was not impressed towing the old beast. Luckily for me the toyota is a company car, I think it's safe to say it was safely pushed to it's limits today.
The safari has 200k on the clock and an issue with the clutch at the moment. After about 10 minutes it stops going into gear, it will stay in a selected gear but it is hard to get into neutral or another gear.
It works fine before 10/15 minutes, some times you will have to pump the clutch to get it into first. I think the syncro's might be a bit worn in first also making it a bit harder.
I took it for a spin and the breaks don't feel like powered breaks so I'm thinking it could just be an airleak in the system somewhere.
(from the short amount of searches, looks like a vacuum leak from a pump behind the alternator?)
I'll have to get a roadworthy done on it also in the next couple of weeks(Morayfield if anyone can recommend a place), It does have some body rust which I hope it doesn't affect the roadworthy, but this was the best chassis I have seen.
I looked at about 6 donks before I decided to take this one. I'll post up some pictures and start a more detailed thread sometime during the week when I have some free time, just thought I would say Hi first.
Thanks for looking,
88
