Hey guys, went down to Macalister Gorge over the weekend, all I can say is what a beautiful part of the world. Didn't end up crossing the river as we were by ourselves.
Went down Blank range and in through Burgoynes. Rain hit us, and missus wasn't too keen on heading back out via burgoynes, so took green hills. Few winches but was all good.
Just wondering, after crossing the river, is the rest of burgoynes to licola easier than from black range to the river? Would love to head back there with a trailer, but don't see myself getting down the steep sections on Green Hills or Burgoynes, so wondering if it's easier access from the Licola end of Burgoynes, and then just crossing the river.

Nice one, yeah sure is a nice spot, might have to go back in summer. Did you find the hut down the spur? ? Heading out the other side was pretty straight forward. Steepish in bits but probably not as steep as the other side from memory. . .

One of my favourite spots in there .... shame you didn't cross, as it is usually OK except after heavy rain, and we haven't seemed to have really had that much but again the weather can be totally different up there to here.
I would classify the Licola side as the harder side, but again it all depends on the track conditions. There is really only one hill that makes the major difference which we used to lovingly call Axle Hill, which is the hardest bit and usually a bit of a test of driving skills, although it was graded a few years back and that tamed it up a fair bit.... and the rest would be fairly similar. Last time we went though a year ago, it was still easy compared to years back

Yeah found the hut, stayed there the Friday night, was awesome having the woodfire to keep us warm! Loved it there, would love to go back, but don't think the missus is too keen. She's not a fan of the steep cliffside rocky sections haha. Probably didn't help being just us, she might go better with a few other cars around.

Easiest part of the drive! There's an off-camber section near the hut, but there's a chicken track to the low side which takes care of that..
