    97-8 GU Transmission in Drive

Hi Guys, noticed when it's cold and when I put trans in Drive ,I find nothing is happening e.g. "not go forward" . then 10 to 15 seconds later it goes forward. after that the trans runs great , feeling strong and no slipping at all. when this happens when it's cold and can put trans in first gear and drive off normally, then back in to drive and runs fine. My ? is the ECU has a bug in it or fluid valve just about to go or something else. regards Alex

p.s. I have changed the auto fluid and filter about a month ago.

What was it like before you changed the fluid and filter?

I was thinking along similar lines. If the fluid was really contaminated, it might be sticking valve(s) in the valve body.
Dismantling and cleaning a valve body is within the capability of anyone with mechanical skills.
I did a thread on it with pics..

I actually noticed a noise in my auto after I did an oil change, changed it again to be sure. It was actually that my auto was already on the way out and needed a reco.

Not saying that yours does, but getting it looked at by a shop will be best in the long run.

I wanted mine to hold out for a few weeks as it was just before Xmas, it didn't and I destroyed the entire box. Cost double what it would of, had I gone sooner. Imo an auto playing silly buggers is not a happy camper, and is in need of some love.

An auto on its way out would have a good amount of debris in the pan and that would have been noticed when the pan was dropped to do the filter.

Mine didn't have a whole lot. Had a bit. But not in-excess. In saying that, the reason my auto died was due to the bearing in the torque converter failing allowing the fins?(plates? Whatever the things inside the tc are called) to wobble and then grind away at each other filling the cooling system with debris and super heating the box.

    yeppers, that will do it..............

best case scenario is to take it to an Auto Tranny specialist
they will give you worst case is could be - and also costs involved to rectify
