    I was just about to post this too. Terrible. Thoughts are with the family. They say a broken strap allowed a shackle to enter via the back window and strike the driver in the head while he sat in the drivers seat. Terrible! Either 2 straps joined by a shackle to gain length or it was a TowBall or hook failure.

    3dogs that purple strap in the other vid looked like a winch extension strap to me. It was Very long.
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

    The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

    I think in the other thread they just towed it out, again very lucky.

    Either way it should not have happened admittedly the driver being only 17 did not have the experience
    but those other 4 wheelers that rolled up should have know better, again an avoidable incident.
    Thoughts with the family and the young fellow.
    I dont have face book etc are there any comments about it??
    Just shows any newbies here how dangerous it is and the amount on energy stored.

    Please do a recovery/4x4 course. you'll be glad you did

    In the news link above they describe it as a freak accident, that's the problem, to the uninitiated it seems to be a freak accident but it isn't. All those forces acting in a straight line with joins either end an some times in the middle, it's not freaky at all. If anything dose go wrong both drivers are line of fire. Recovery is a very risky operation.

    Freak accident would be like once in a lifetime event,
    You're right its not a freak accident it was doing a recovery all wrong
    and could have been avoided, this makes me really mad, GGRRrrrrrrrr

    Also all the recovery kits out there in retail land have a 8000kg snatch a 12000kg tree protector with 5 to 6 ton winch all tied together with a 4.75t shackle. making the whole set up only rated to the weakest link, the shackle.
