Another one from Norway. 1993 SWB GQ

    Hello, all.

I am from the complete opposite side of earth, Norway, north Europe.

There are quite some patrols running around here, but good information is hard to find. I am hoping to find better answers here.

I "grew up" with patrols. My father bought a 1986 MK super roof 3,3 late 1985, as I was 6 years old. I learned to drive in this car at the age of 9. 10 years alter, I bought it, and had it for 1 year. I upgraded to a 1996 GQ, and had that one for 1 year as well. After buying a house, I needed something cheaper to commute in, sold the patrol and bought a 1990 Nissan Laurel 2,8D, and had that one for a year as well. Late 2003, I again upgraded. I needed some thing reliable, with great comfort, that would run "for ever" without having to spend big money, so I bought a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300 TD Turbo. I still have it, and I've put 300.000 km on it.
Two years ago, I wanted some thing fun to play with, so I bought a cheap, 1985 MK. It had 3" body lift, so I put 35" wheels on it, and had a blast. Still, I've been looking for some thing that can tow 3500 kg, go offroad, and not cost a fortune. The patrol GQ was the obvious choice, I just had to find one that was not too rusty, or over prized. Most GQs for sale here tend to be either one, or both.
As I blew the engine of the MK, and a "nice" GQ came for sale, I am now the owner of a not-too-rusty, and not-too-overprized 1993 GQ. It has got rust in the chassis, but the frame seems to be very good. The explanation for this is probably because it spent its first 8 years in Germany, were the winters are milder, and they don't use the same amounts of salt to keep the roads ice free as we do in Norway.

My first, the 1986 MK (this one is still alive):

    The next, 1996 GQ:

    1990 Nissan Laurel:

    1992 Mercedes-Benz 300 TD Turbo:

The first offroader, 1985 2,8 petrol MK:

The current offroader, 1993 GQ 2,8:

The 1993 I've only had for 3 weeks. I just got it passed its "MOT" so it's road worthy for another two years. Next week It's going to the DVLA to have the rear seats inspected and approved for use. Because of import taxes, it was imported as a two-seater from Germany i 2001. Now, more than 10 years later, the rear seats can be put back, with no cost. Plans are to lift it 2", and put 33" or 35" wheels on it. First of all, it need better cooling.

Didn't see your post before now :P

Beautiful MK! My dream was a 3.3 GQ, but I ended up with a 260 as you know. I hope we're able to get some proper information up here on the RD28T engine, as the Aussies didn't get that engine in their cars, and thereby don't have too much information on it. I look forward to a fruitful cooperation here!

Btw, I live in Oslo, if you haven't read that already!
