The casing of the winch is made to hold square nuts otherwise it would be a pita getting a spanner or socket behind there as well as trying to hold the winch in place.

As Matt said yes you can, but you might still find they will have to order them in for you. But ring around you might get lucky and find someone stocking the size your after.

No bolt shops in Warragul and BJ bearings don't have much in fasteners so I'm happy to pay $20 rather than drove half an hour in the wrong direction to Pakenham.

And it's not shown on the website but the bolts do have about about a 20mm shank that is not threaded.
Not sure if it matters

Depends on what the bolt is going through, buy usually there is a reason why they use fully threaded bolt over bolts with a shank

Oww nice! !. Fairlead looks good. Yeah the idea of the shank is to not bugger the housing or thread where they go through in theory. Mines just got normal bolts but it is a slight pain in the butt. . . Need to jam a screwdriver in to stop the nut turning!!
