I'm looking into a place at Brendale that has a deal for electronic and chemical rust proofing together. Those pictures Gaddy and TPC are exactly the reason I purchased the Patrol and just looking at them now is giving me very itchy feet. I have a lot to learn when it comes to sand driving and I figured no better place to learn than Fraser. I'm aiming to go mid October at this stage and can't wait. I'll take plenty of pictures and put them up here when we get back.
2003 Nissan Patrol GU III with a ZD30, purchased June 2015. 2 inch lift, air bags in back, Copper Brass Radiator. Safari Snorkel. Diesel Smart Monster Intercooler, Performance Computer, 20psi Boost Actuator. 3 inch Dominator exhaust. Dual Batteries. Pillar Pods. Glow Plug Timer.

I've got a thread in the trips and pre planning section on Fraser ( I'd put a link but I got no idea how ) , time your arrival at the barge a couple of hour's before low tide , lower your tyres , in soft sand momentum is the key , not speed , tour busses and planes have right of way !
If ya not using it buy a prius .....

Thanks Gaddy, that's good info and I'll check your thread out too. We're thinking of setting up camp at Waddy Point campgrounds and exploring the island from there.

Apprentices Rule!!!
Driving in Fraser isn't too bad, the outer road gets graded twice a day . Just remember.
Normal road rules apply, with an 80km/h speed limit on the beach, and 30km/h on the inland tracks.
The sand isn't as grippy as tar. It can sink. You're tyre pressures are lowered. Take it easy on corners.
But with the right pressures, the only place you might get stuck is Indian head.

Ngkala Rocks bypass is another spot that catches people out, we could not get passed last time as there were 3 vehicles stuck.

Yes of course. Forgot about that one. Last time I was there tide was so low we didn't have to drive on rocks at all.

I reckon nearly every car I've ever seen stuck there , and indian , has not let there boots down or been a I can do it in 2wd hero , and to a lesser extent trying to change gears , due to a bad choice to start with !
If ya not using it buy a prius .....

There is a car wash at Rainbow Beach were you can get underbody protection spray before you go onto the island and then another spray designed to remove the salt when you come back. You park the Patrol on a grid, put your money in and stand back. Can't remember the cost but I did think at the time it was reasonable.
