unipower welder-anybody fitted one?
i'm not to sure if this fits here. Has anybody fitted a unipower welder(south african) to any 4wd? It involves putting on a high powered altenator to run it.
if anyone has done it, how good are they?

We have used a 24v welder in remote situations to weld the bottom of a Shock back on. Two batteries from under the bonnet got it done easily. Not sure what your product is but a basic 24v setup got the job done with ease.
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!!
....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Cheers mate, even without that jumper leads and some welding rods will be a winner. If using jumper leads hold the arc rod in the Negative clip.

It's a mig welder, has a .5 kg gas less spool or you can connect to argon.
Not sure how long you can weld, depends on how good your battery's were. I welded up my brake shaft on my high mount winch after a night of winching and it welded fine.
The post Darren mentioned above used my starting battery and the car started.

My BIL had one on his 75s ute years ago, great for remote work like weld gate hinges back on.
He is an Auto lec so he converted an alternator some how. I would love one too.

Unipower have been around for years.
We hand one on an F truck when Off Road Racing and they work great.
But if you just want to do small repairs on the track to get you home 2 batteries and 2.5 satin craft rods will work great.
As said above positive earth.

You can use XD or XC type alternators and remove the regulator,
More suited to a dual alternator set up like some GQ have ,,,, you'll want to use it everyday
its that good as long as your leads reach the job.
The Mig welder is a seperate unit all together, Id rather use batteries before gasless Mig
